Cardinal Roger Mahony, leader of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles, apologized to the hundreds (508) of sex abuse victims that will collect a portion of the $660 million settlement reached this week. The $660 million brings the grand total up over $2 billion that the church has paid out since 1950.
Maybe it’s time the church changes the way it does business, instead of having to go out and apologize for crimes that could have been prevented. The Catholic church should be preventing these crimes from occuring and helping to prosecute those involved, instead of protecting the guilty, apologizing and paying the victims. Having said that, I hope these victims eventually take every dollar that the Catholic church has robbed from it’s members.
